Longbridge Spotlight: Herbert’s Yard

With 6,500 sq.ft. of event and dining space in the town centre, Herbert’s Yard goes from strength to strength as a popular oasis in Austin Park. The site, built by St. Modwen and run by multi-award-winning street food pioneers Digbeth Dining Club has year-round events while offering indoor and outdoor space for a wide range of corporate and community uses.

Ahead of the second birthday of Herbert’s Yard next month, we caught up with Philippa Green, Events Supervisor at the popular venue..

Firstly, happy birthday! Are you doing anything special to celebrate?

Every day is a celebration here at Herbert’s but yes we have a few surprises planned! However, with between 5,000 and 5,500 visitors per month there’s never a dull moment. We’ve always got a party or event going on – be that a little family birthday gathering or a full-scale corporate event.

Who are your typical visitors?

We have a large mix of customers, we have everyone visiting us! Office workers on a Friday afternoon coming for a spot of lunch, friends popping by for a catch up and families coming in droves to celebrate occasions and birthdays. We have lots of regulars and we absolutely love it – we love the fact that people can call our venue their local.

Who is the most popular vendor or is there a most popular dish?

We don’t have favourites! We love everyone and every food we offer. We have such a variety of choices that it is impossible to have favourites.

What kind of events have you got coming up?

We have our comedy nights every first Wednesday of the month and a very special one on the 18th November for stand up to cancer, We have our QUEEN strings event on the 25th and regularly hold markets for small businesses on the first Sunday of the month. We do have a lot of great things planned for our 2nd birthday and Christmas so stay tuned

Why do you think Longbridge makes a great spot for a venue like Herbert’s Yard?

It is truly the people that make Herberts what it is. All of our staff are local. Our director is local. We want Herberts to be for the area that is growing massively and we want to grow with it! I think that’s what makes us and Longbridge such a great partnership.

Why do you particularly enjoy working at Herbert’s / Longbridge?

I have been working here for 2 years in April and I have seen this venue go from strength to strength. I love the vibes and the individuality on offer here and I adore the people! Our team is incredible and keeps the place running constantly. As someone who is not from Birmingham, I am immensely proud when I hear people say I work at one of the best street food venues in the West Midlands area (not to toot our own horn!) in one of the greatest areas in south Birmingham.

Well we all love Herbert’s Yard and wish them a very Happy Birthday from everyone who knows and loves them in the Longbridge area and beyond!
