by foot & bike

Travelling to Longbridge by bike or on foot offers a great way to explore our surrounding countryside.

Sitting in the shadow of the Lickey Hills, Longbridge is engulfed by green making the commute to work, the journey home or even a trip out for a spot of retail therapy, a pleasure.

Longbridge is also located close to Route 5 of the National Cycle Network, a UK-wide network of clean air pathways that provide sustainable traffic-free connections between cities, towns and the countryside.

River Rea

The historic River Rea provides an idyllic route into or out of Longbridge, as it winds its way through the local landscape. It was on the banks of the Rea that the Anglo-Saxon Beorma tribe settled in the 7th century, laying the foundations for what would become the city of Birmingham. Today, the river forms the centrepiece of Austin Park, a green oasis at the heart of our town centre.

Lickey Hills Country Park

One of Birmingham’s most varied and treasured parks, the park covers 524 acres and is located just two miles from our town centre. The park offers different things to different people; it’s a place for family days out, to spot wildlife, for sport, school trips, or maybe just for the views and a cup of tea. The Lickey Hills has a fascinating geology with habitats including woodlands, heathland and grassland, providing a home to an incredible diversity of wildlife.

Cofton Park

Situated on the slopes adjoining the Lickey Hills Country Park, Cofton Park’s 135 acres are mainly made up of open grassland, with a small woodland area at its heart where stunning oak and ash trees flourish. In 2010, Pope Benedict XVI celebrated mass and presided over the beatification of Cardinal John Henry Newman at Cofton Park, in front of a crowd of over 51,000 people.
